What did you do in the reloading room today?

I was testing a new 8# lot of N570 again an old 8# lot. I pretty quickly noticed about a 70 fps difference (slower) with the new lot vs. the old. Shooting a quick 20 inch barreled wildcat 6mm with 116 gr. Sierra TMK’s. 68 grains from the old lot ran consistently in the 3260’s fps. 68 grains of the new lot runs in the 3190’s fps. Being pretty close to the preferred case fill, I could live with the 3190’s, or try to get back to the previous velocity with a little work. While the velocity drop didn’t really affect accuracy, when shooting at 600 yards+ the impact differences were visible. A couple of additional clicks up is no big deal, but the effect of the wind at long range was very visible, and considerably more difficult to hold for. The remedy was 68 grains of N565! It got me back into the 3260’s, easily held accuracy, and I have enough of this lot of power to hopefully outlast the barrel life. It’s a great gun to shoot and hunt with, but I’ll admit to being a little stingy when taking it to the range.
