So, I finally decided to see what’s going on here, as I clicked the link from the S&W Forum. I was in the process of sending the donation but Pay Pal was not being a Pal so I’ll try later. I see a lot of guys on S-W from PA so I hope to see some familiar “faces”. So, I’ve been living in Pgh since ‘98, working here since ‘88. I retired from the Steamfitters Local #449, doing commercial/ industrial HVACR. I grew up in New Brighton and we had a cottage in Crawford County. Ex-Mill hunky, J&L Steel, Aliquippa.

Welcome from SE Pa. I’m also retiring from the HVAC business. It used to be an enjoyable job , but as I got older I realized that I can’t spend 8 hours on a black rubber roof anymore. I still work a little on the residential side,

I’ve been in western Pa quite a few times for Steelers games and I rode my bike to Butler for the Easyrider Rodeo a few times .When I was younger I used to go to Philly to watch the Eagles, but I much prefer a less intense and friendlier crowd.

When the wife was still alive we used to hop on the turnpike and go west to Bedford and Sommerset just as tourists. Sometimes we would stay for the nite, and sometimes we would come home the same day. It always seemed greener and more beautiful after the tunnels. We often talked about moving out there , as eastern Pa is getting so built up and exploited. Too old to move now, but if I did I’m pretty sure it would be somewhere in south central to western Pa.

@jeffrefrig, welcome to the party. It might be just a bit more personable than the S&W, and feel a touch more down home.

Glad you had a good run with the union. I was gouged pretty bad by Teamsters 92 Cleveland and Washington, DC.
Electricians in Washington were so-so, neither good nor bad through eight years there.
Painters, paperhangers, and decorators in Las Vegas were an "also ran", but the biggest bums were Machinists, Aerospace UAW.

But that was then, this is the here and now, and you'll find this forum populated by a bunch of good guys who are helpful and friendly. Did you bring a dog with you? there is a thread for pictures and some are just great.
