What was the first firearm you ever shot?

Mine was my father's .38 Special Colt Official Police that the Pennsylvania State Police armorer built from parts for him, changing the four-inch barrel for a six-inch in the process. I was about seven years old and thought it kicked like a mule. I remember holding it about a foot under the 25-yard target, thinking the bullet might strike the target as the gun recoiled upward.

Shooting a customized Colt at seven must’ve been wild. I can just picture you aiming low, anticipating that big recoil jump :)

Mine was a Winchester Model 67, single shot cal. .22 LR, that was already old when my Dad started me with it when I was 5. We used to go to the State Hospital dump and shoot rats and of course cans and bottles. BTW I am now 79 and still have the rifle and both my kids and my wife learned how to shoot with it!

I was an 11 yo Tenderfoot, Boy Scout at our local Council summer camp. I shot .22 cal. shorts on a 25 foot range. Also hit 3 for 3 on .22 cal clay birds. I feel in love with it, but my mother fought my Dad and she won. No guns in the house. My next was at a college friends on the family farm in NE. Targets with rifles, shotgun clays and hunted birds all season.

My dad's RIP Mossberg m500 in 12 GA when I was 11 yo. A few weeks later, he bought me a Savage m67 in 20 ga. He bought it new in 1983 and it was a piece of junk. At the time (we didn't know), Savage was in doldrums. It would be like a early Remington/Marlin lever action. I hunted with it for a couple of years and I bought a Mossberg m500 in 12ga that my oldest son now has.

My dad RIP bought a ticket of a gun show and he got a Savage m110 in 30-06 (1989). He traded it for a TC Contender with a 14" muzzle brake in 7-30 Waters about 4 or 5 years later.

I had a Savage m116 in '06 and another m112 in 223 Remington. I liked them both, but I sold them. I then bought my uncles m110 in 270, but I sold it too. I bought another Savage Axis in 243 for my son's graduation. He still has it.
