Tradition that seemed normal until you realized it's actually weird

I grew up thinking everyone opened one present on Christmas Eve, I found out as an adult that's not universal and some people think it's sacrilege. What tradition did you think was normal until other people looked at you like you were crazy?

That's funny! At my place, presents stay put under the tree till Boxing Day.

When I was a kid, I thought everyone ate chili on Christmas. But it turns out we just wanted to get out of cooking after a long day, people look shocked when I bring it up.
