Just an add to explain the "Mad Buffalo Jack" on the back of the walking stick that's pictured. That was my persona moniker when I started d events. My persona portrayal was that of an Independent Mtnman-Trapper/Trader. When you start this period, something you wear, do (mistake or accidental action) or say repetitively, will garner you a fore-ever moniker. You are given it whether wanted or not, it isn't your choice. ex: the teen son of a friend named John and called Johnny, would marched with his dad's club in local parades were they'd fire blank powder loads to please the crowds. by the end of these events he would have used up 1 plus pound of powder. The members donned him as "JOHNNY ONE POUND." It's still sticking today. So if you are a true newbie; Be careful what you wish for,.... you may get something that sticks with you (like Marriage) for better or worse. EeeeeeAaaahh! I got the Mad Buffalo Jack from an event results of a Jr College football game back in 1967 in NE. I was a 6'2", 235# defensive end. I made a tackle on a smallish 5'5", 135# RB player, that unintentionally caused him a grade 2 concussion. I met him through some of his friends in 1968, spring, at a track meet. He WAS an Native American attended the Haskell Institute for Indians in Manhatten, KS. the friends brought up that incident at our common dinner break and that I was the perp. The brought the player, John ( last name was the Sioux word for the Prairie Rattlesnake common to SD). He was surprisingly amused by the football thing. we talked socially, the out of nowhere he says, "Quick, name a dangerous plains animal you admire!". I stuttered out, "aaaaah, Bison!" He then states, "That fits you big guy; in that game you were a "Big Crazy Tatonka" wreaking painful havoc on the peaceful invaders" and everyone laughed. They showed me how to sign, "I am called, 'Big Angry (Mad) Buffalo." So when my compadres in ML reenacting world said the needed to find me a name/moniker, I told them I already had one given me by a real Native American, so "Mad Buffalo Jack" is what they stuck to me. My grandson got the name "Ten Times (10X {his moniker})", since he requires everyone asking him to do something, to ask him at least 10X.. That's how you get what you got coming!
