Running a thousand rounds through a budget pistol

I ran a budget pistol hard without cleaning it to see how it would hold up. It made it through most of the test with only a couple of malfunctions before I finally cleaned it. After that it went back to normal. For the price, it performed reasonably well but it also showed me where reliability standards really matter.

One year (SEVERAL decades ago) I shot trap all season long with a shotgun just to see how much gunk it would accept and still keep running. It was an old Sears Roebuck (Stevens) pump gun, and it made it through the whole season though the trigger got kind of sticky there, towards the end of season, firing weekly 50 birds, and at least 50 nearly every weekend.
