Ramen in the Prepper Stash?

I'm curious about how everyone feels about keeping ramen in the prep stash. I know it's not packed with nutrients, but it's super cheap, filling, and can last a while, right?

I've got a few cases tucked away, but how long do they last past the expiration date? And is there a better way to store them than just keeping the individual packs in the box?

Anyone else rotate ramen regularly or have some cool tricks to make it more than just a snack in a long-term situation? Seems like they outlast their expiration, but just want to be sure!

First thing to remember is "The date stamped on the package bears little relationship to the time after which it is no good".

That is a CYA date for the mfr. Lots of storage depends on the particular product and the components of the product. If it contains oils, it will not last as long. If it is stored in a dry, cool place, it will generally last longer than if hot and humid.

Honey and olive oil have been found in the Pyramids of Egypt (that's maybe 3500, 4500 years) and it is still good. Some alcoholic beverages found in shipwrecks in the Medeterranian are still good after a thousand. Wheat from those pyramids still sprouts 85% - that's phenomenal ! This means that the product, the storage system and environment all are variably affective.

Choose what normally has a long shelf life, what will be less influenced by your location and environment.

SPAM can last for years if the package is intact. It contains salt, and though oily, keeps well. 6-7 years is not unreasonable, if done right.
