Summer always feels like the slow season for hunting, but it’s the perfect time to get a jumpstart before everything kicks into high gear. I’ve been checking my gear and trail cams while trying to keep my fitness up, but I can't shake the feeling I'm forgetting something important, so I'm curious what everyone else does to prep this time of year.

We run our coonhounds every night and i throw 50lbs in my pack ,so we get in 5-10 miles a night with the pack on and that keeps me pretty good for my fall hunts

Mostly just reloading and testing on woodchucks. Time to get the dust blown out of the flintlocks...

I clean, repair, or replace gear as needed. Load a lot of ammo. We also work on blinds as needed and keep up our food plots. In years past, I would procrastinate till the last moment. Doing it all summer makes things a lot simpler come hunting seasons.

Shooting practice when when time allots. I review, clean & repair all my gear (clothes and firearms, ammo, and all I have). If something arises late season, I'll note it in my hunt log and take care of it through the winter or time time allows. I'll also make items I've encountered on sites and when encountering other hunters in the field or elsewhere they may happen.. Interaction and idea exchanges support the sport and those who partake in its' purity of lifestyle.

I shoot and reload for various rifles almost everyday. More notably though, I just got back from a combined lake trout and black bear hunt in New Brunswick, Canada! What a great way to shorten the time gab between PA seasons!

How did you do in canada? We usually go to quebec for bear but didnt get to hunt this year

We had a great time! Lake trout fishing in the morning, main meal at lunch time, then head to the various bear stands about 3:00 pm. With them being 1 hour ahead of us, and the 9:30 pm sunsets there in mid to late June, you’re on stand until 10:00 pm. I believe my largest trout was 32”, and the bear I took was a 230# 2 1/2 year old boar. Ex m ex

Editing & proof reading here seems all but impossible. Sorry for the garbage text and no pics. When I tried it seemed to go wonky! I have several pics, if I can ever figure out how to get to them?
