I've been thinking about taking my little one fishing for the first time. I don't have any experience myself, but I saw some kids' fishing rods at a local store and thought it might be a fun outing. What's a good setup for a beginner? I'm looking for something simple that will keep my kid engaged and make it a memorable day out. Any advice on what bait to use or techniques that have worked well for you? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I took all my kids out when they could walk and just helped hold the pole.
We had the kids push button. we had Buzz Light year, Lightning Mcqeen from cars and many more.
as 410-er said ponds and lakes for blue gills best way to get them hooked.
have fun and good luck. Memories is what it is about

I got my grandkids hooked on fishing by taking them to a pond that was full of bluegills. They're easy to catch and put up a decent battle. And they only require simple gear. Even a bamboo pole with string and a bobber. Meal worms or small redworms make excellent bait.

Be patient! Any fish caught is a good fish, maybe not legal size, but can still be eaten in a survival situation. You can't teach anyone, everything, about all knowledge of the sport of fishing. #1 rule about being a good teacher; let the student know you are only able to give out the knowledge you have. And if you DON'T know something, that you'll get the answer and LET THEM KNOW!
