Ammunition storage in basements

I'm setting up ammunition storage in my basement and want to ensure I'm doing it properly. My main concerns are humidity control, temperature fluctuations, and long-term preservation, so I'm considering airtight containers with desiccants, but I'm open to other solutions

The main thing I'd add is to get it off the floor, concrete acts like a sponge for moisture, so even a cheap wooden pallet under those airtight cans will buy you serious peace of mind. Your future self will thank you for not having to clean a hundred rounds of green-fuzzed brass

That’s a good plan, man. I’d also toss in a small humidity gauge so you actually know what’s going on down there, it’s one of those cheap tools that saves you guessing and keeps your ammo fresh year-round without overdoing it

If you look enough, the Coca-Cola company has black plastic pallets which won't absorb any moisture. They look like they may be made of recycled garbage bags with all the strands and swirls cast unto the plastic. They make perfect basement pallets, if you happen to come across a few, so Ive been told. 😎

Label your cans with masking tape & sharpie markers so you can save time & organize easier.

Getting your ammo off the concrete floor with a pallet is essential, that humidity will wick right through. Airtight cans with a good desiccant pack are the way to go, just keep that small humidity gauge inside a main container to confirm you're below forty percent

That’s a good tip, I hadn’t thought about moisture wicking through the concrete. I’ll raise the cans off the floor..thanks for the heads-up

Smart call on labeling, that’ll save a ton of time later
