I figured out that how you place your muffs is more important than how padded they are. Cold ears and bad fit is not good, so I switch between electronic muffs and good earplugs, depending on how long I will be out there.
How something fits is way more important than padding, in my opinion. I started adjusting muffs after my ears froze one morning and I switch things up based on the wind and how long I will be out.
