Planning a trip to visit family and I’m trying to figure out the best route. I’d like to bring a firearm with me, but passing through New York State complicates things a bit. I can avoid NY, but that adds a ton of drive time. I’m weighing options and just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this kind of situation and what you ended up doing. Would appreciate any tips or experiences anyone's willing to share.

I see no one ever responded to this, and that's too bad because I would have liked to known what others thought. Traveling with legal guns stored correctly even to the range without leaving the state and back makes me on edge. I don't want to think about an extended roadtrip with guns outside of the state lol:LOL:

I'd probably skip bringing a firearm through New York. Laws are tricky, and one slip could cause big trouble

Ha, yeah, taking guns on a roadtrip sounds like a stress Olympics. I'd probably just leave them home, I don't need my vacation turning into a legal scavenger hunt across state lines

I'd feel that's risky, New York's gun rules are complicated and penalties can be severe if you accidentally run afoul of them. If it were me I'd either reroute, leave the firearm home, or ship it ahead after confirming rules

In re: Your avoidance of New York. That goes double for New Jersey - think about a fine of $1,000 PER ROUND of hollow point ammunition.
